I may have forced family members to drink them. I may have also forced said family members to watch how they were made (in obvious amazement of my awesomness).
There are a gazillion (or at least a dozen) how-to videos out there for making layered drinks. The principle is based on the density of the different beverages. The more sugar a beverage has, the heavier it is.
For this version, I used Jolly Rancher orange soda (29 grams of sugar) for the base, lemon-lime Powerade (20 grams of sugar) for the middle, and Diet Sierra Mist (0 grams of sugar) for the top.
The trick is lots of ice and a sloooooooooooow pour. If you pour too fast, the force of the poured layer will mix with the existing layer(s), thereby mixing them. (I'm sorry, thereby had to be used.)
The ice helps to disperse the force of the poured layer as it cascades down the ice cubes, resulting in little to no integration with the existing layer(s)
I was expecting these to taste ok at best, but the orange and citrus flavors blended well and I was pleasantly surprised by a tasty drink. I'm trying out a vampire drink next - I just have to find the right
